"Sony held a press conference to unveil a new system" SONY NEVER SAID WHAT THEY WERE UNVEILING.. you and a million other people assumed it would be ps4.. which it was.. but you also assumed they would SHOW ps4, which they didn't.. pax, tgs, and e3 are all still to come so why are you complaining, you got a 2 hour conference that was very in depth and you complain about not seeing one thing

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Bungie and Blizzard wasn't a big deal because Diablo 3 has a terrible reputation and Bungie isn't big news because they upstaged Sony partially by outing Destiny, and the fact it was coming to all platforms (of consequence) days before the PS4 reveal.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Buahah! cmon Consumer give the guy a break, hes trying to do-gooder and get more of them there detailes! Right now Nintendo has the lead on Sony because they already have their console out and running. I see nothing here with the PS4 that is amazingly astounding that'll blow Nintendo and Microsoft out of the water.
Nothing.
The only thing that I find mildly interesting is the "suspend" mode, AKA Hibernate mode.
Other than that, not interested. I'm more impressed with the Wii U than the PS4 - and I don't own a Wii U.

I don't know how you think that this will smash the Wii U out of existence

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

This entire article is totally retarded.

Problem 1: We didn't see the fucking plastic box the thing comes in. Who cares? It's just a box, the services etc are what actually matters.

Problem 2: They didn't shout about pre-owned because it's a standard feature and apart from one rumour about microsoft nobody has any reason to think that things won't just stay the same.

Problem 3: Claiming not to be a Microsoft fanboy then claiming XBL has some invisible "better" qualities that you can't quite describe? Keep on desperately trying to believe that you're buying something worthwhile for that Gold sub price. Sony have improved their network in every way over this gen, and the conference yesterday showed off improvements which fix all the remaining issues.

Problem 4: It was too long? Go to fucking bed and read the news stories online tomorrow like a regular person. They showed third party games because people want to play them and see them with great graphics.

Problem 5: No hardware BC is a shame, but it's good to know that you've written off the entirety of Sony's streaming and cloud gaming strategy without ever using it or knowing anything about it.

Problem 6: They did announce when they're releasing it.

Let’s hope the standard of journalism is better executed elsewhere.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Stupid Article

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Yeeeeah. PS plus comes with all of those awesome free games.

That go away when you stop paying for PS plus.

Newsflash: they aren't free. You're paying subscription fees for those "free" games. And at the end of the day, you still can't chat with whoever you want unless you're all playing the same game; party chat doesn't exist on PSN and that difference alone makes PSN totally outmoded.

Look, I'd love a free online network--who wouldn't? But I've used PSN. It sucks. It sucks enough that I have no problem shelling out anywhere between $30 to $60 dollars (price does get discounted at retailers and on Xbox Live itself [and without "free" coupons too]) for XBL.

If you honestly think that PSN is better, it's because you haven't used Xbox Live. It's not a rip-off if the service you're paying for is better by leaps and bounds.

The rip-off is you paying $50 a year for the premium version of an inferior service for (and so that you can keep your) "free" stuff.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

I doubt the vast majority of gamers actually understand that much about the architecture of the machines. They're just not crazy about flushing all the money they spent on PS3 games down the drain just yet.

I intend to keep my good old reliable, original fat PS3 *somewhere* in the house even if I do buy a PS4. Maybe give it an SSD upgrade too. Unless this streaming thing for backward compatibility is really that good.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

As they say, this case of death is taking a while to kick in. People have been declaring PCs dead for the past 20 years at least. Roughly every time a new console is released. Funny.

We'd better hope PC gaming is NOT dead. I'm sorry, but gaming consoles are not released often enough to drive the GPU tech development necessary to MAKE them. Without continuous PC gaming hardware development for the past six years since the release of the PS3 there would not be a PS4 to talk about right now. Nor a new XBox.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

Sheer fanboy drivel. You complain the conference was too long but also complain about the lack of information - obviously only so much information can fit into a specific time slot.

"Sony held a press conference to unveil a new system" - Did they? Were you part of their marketing team? was it not just to announce their new system??? there's a difference. Don't forget there's still the best part of a year before launch and plenty of other conferences for example E3 - traditionally where the big reveals are made for hardware and software alike - this conference was more of a teaser as to what you could expect from things like E3.
After all they did give the specificaitons of the system, does the look of the unit actually matter THAT much to you?

"PCs don’t support used games. Guess what? They’re dead" - Are they? The top selling PC game outsells the top selling console game each year.

"unless you count gamers buying PC games for pennies on the dollar from Steam" - since 2009 PC game revenue has risen whereas console game revenue has dropped.

"the fact that their online network is second-rate" - once again spoken like a true fanboy. Look around, it's becoming widely accepted that while it may be lacking some features like cross game chat the Playstation Network is level if not better than the X-Box live offering. Partially due to Playstation+. As the initial network was free to play (and still is), how do you expect Sony to keep up the running of the system without input? Off their own backs, that's how - not like MS charging everyone for every single thing (it cost $10 just to change your name). With PS+ (a voluntary service) there is now suitbale upkeep costs being brought in. There's free full game downloads each month. As well as a multitude of other offers, well worth the yearly cost.
As for gaming online - i've not encountered any problems on the PS3 which i haven't also encountered on the Xbox a similar number of times.

"a “Remote Play” option which no one will likely care about." You mean you likely won't care about - there's plenty of other users that will - Playing PS4 games on the move, what's not to like?

"no backward compatibility to the PS3. What? Terrible idea." - you clearly don't understand how backward compatibility works. To enable the PS4 to be backward compatible with the PS3 they would have had to change the hardware. Basically building a PS3 system into the PS4.

"Nobody wants to stream games" - you realise in a way that's what's happening when you play online...in which case everyone wants to play streaming games it would seem.

"A LAUNCH DATE. “Holiday 2013″ doesn’t cut it" - this is how all the consoles (and plenty of AAA games) in the past have been first announced, with a general date. No doubt it will be nailed down (if not already) in time for E3.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

I agree with the Ni No Kuni comments...the announcement was worth suspending play to see what's going on with Sony.

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

In regards to your fourth point, this is a bad move for Japanese gamers. Sony knows how precious space is for folks living in Japan--people have little of it thus they want to maximize what they have. Having to keep a PS3 to play PS3 games on is going to be a total bummer to many gamers here in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if lack of backwards compatibility is what does the system in (if it is in fact done in)...or its big price tag (if it is in fact big).

Re: Six Problems With Today’s Disastrous PlayStation 4 Briefing

pretty sure that charging 60$ a year per person is the main reason for that profit. You can pay 60$ and get online service and thats about it.. or get PSN which is FREE, or you can opt to pay, and get tons of games for free, early demos and betas, coupons and everything you get with xbl. Now, what were you saying?
